Learning to play the guitar
is an exiting exercise that will bring you fulfilment. You will be able to join
in with like minded people and make new musical friends,and you will never be bored! as there is always
something new to master on your instrument. Right now your enthusiasm is your
greatest asset so let’s hang on to that.
Now right away let me say
to you don’t be anxious about how musical or not musical you think you may
be. At this stage no one can say how adept you will be at mastering your
instrument.Take your time you will get there.
I would like to emphasise
to you my approach to tuition, it is not so much about the amount
of practice you do, but how you practice. Playing the guitar is both
mental, and physical. To sit repeating things over and over can be quite
inappropriate to this new skill. Results will come from practicing in the
right way.
I can show you a step by step approach based on my 15 years
professional experience of performing live, and recording, various styles of
music. It also important to feel that what you are learning is what you feel enthusiastic

The blues is a good
starting point for learning some technique. The reason is it has a simple
structure, so we can work on rhythm and
timing, and, repetition is in the nature of popular music. The blues structure does all this well.

As your technique develops
we can move on into the styles that you particularly like. It may be finger
picking folk music, it may be heavy metal, it may be blues and jazz, what ever
does it for you.
